New Place, new energy

February 17, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I soaked in this beautiful, sunny day.
I wrote this morning — in Starbucks no less. Edited a few paragraphs of one of my WIP’s. It was a singular experience. Surrounded by a mob of people cruising by for their latte’s and four shot espresso’s, I successfully pruned ineffective phrases and found the emotional core of the opening scene. I’m not surprised that moving to a new location served to inspire me — but I am mystified it worked while the volume of voices and music was high and my personal space was infringed upon. I know I’ll definitely have to drag myself out of the apartment more often to be more effective with my time.
When you want to change things up, where do you go to write?

There’s a small coffe shop near my house. I’ve often driven by (or through – they have fabulous cheescake) and wondered if it would be a handy writing retreat when I want to get out of the house. I might give it a shot.
